According to mythology, the festival of Anant Chaturdashi has its roots in the epic Mahabharata.  This day is being celebrated as the day of Lord Vishnu.

God created 14 lokas, Tal, Atal, Prana, Sutala, Talatal, Rasatal, Patal, Bhi, Bhuv, Jana, Tapa, Satya, Mah.  To obey and protect them, he came to this mortal world in the form of 14 different incarnations, which gave him the name of being infinite.  He knew that he had saved his people and his creations, for which these incarnations played a major role.

Therefore, the day of Anant Chaturdashi is of great importance, because you can please the lord of creation yourself and be blessed with his best blessings.  The fast observed on this day also has special significance.
